Jessie Downs is an operatic soprano with a commitment to technical excellence & interpretive sensitivity. Originally from New Jersey, she is currently based in Buffalo, New York.
Jessie’s performances have been described as “simply stunning” and “a tour de force.” Her full-bodied lyric tone has been called “sweet” and “very round,” and her range “impressive.” Signature leading roles include Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Suor Angelica in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme. She has also enjoyed singing such supporting roles as Micaëla in Carmen, Marzelline in Fidelio, both the First and Second Lady in The Magic Flute, and Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana,
Jessie has studied bel canto since the age of fourteen, holds a PhD in Music Composition, and has extensive experience as a music director and conductor. These different skillsets work together to make her a flexible vocal technician, thoughtful interpreter, and fastidious musician.
